Vegan in Costa Rica #3: Monteverde
After our days in Arenal Volcano, we went to Monteverde. We stayed at the Cloud Forest Lodge, right in the middle of the forest, and we had so much to do inside the property we barely left it during those 2 days.
The first thing we did when we arrived was, as always, eat. The hotel had a restaurant called Motmot well we had all of our meals during our stay. My first meal was my favorite meal - Spaghetti al Pesto. It's such a simple dish but yet I almost never have it because it's usually made with parmesan cheese. But here they said the cheese came in separate, so I could easily ask for no cheese and it would be vegan. That's what I did, and I'm so glad. I love pesto so much!
For dinner, I asked for the Vegetarian Casado with soy meat (no cheese and no eggs).
After dinner, we went on a guided night trail, and I highly recommend it, it was incredibly fun to walk around the forest at night.
On the following day, I had fruit, bread and jam for breakfast.
We did a couple of more trails in the forest.
And for lunch I had their Spaghetti Pomodoro.
Unfortunately for me, it had a LOT of cilantro. I hate cilantro, and so I hated this meal - not the restaurant's fault though! My brother had it too and he loved it. I just really hate cilantro.
After a couple more hikes (that's basically what we did in Monteverde, and it was awesome) we had dinner, and I had the pesto again.
The following morning we had the same breakfast and headed on to our next and last destination before coming back home: Samara.

Then, we spent the day - the two days, actually - exploring the hotel's trails. We couldn't see monkeys, unfortunately, but we saw a lot of other animals, and just being there surrounded by the rainforest was an experience unlike any other.
On our way to our first trail, I was talking with my brother about the animals we had seen in Costa Rica so far that we didn't even know existed.
"Do you think we'll see new animals here too?" I asked him.
"Yes, we will!" he answered jokingly, pointing at me. I wasn't looking at him so I didn't understand his joke.
"You're right, there's one right there!" I said, excited. He was still joking though, so he didn't understand I was serious.
"Yes, this animal right here." He continued, patting my back.
"Oh my god, what do you think he is?"
"Wait, there really is an animal there! You're serious!"
"Weren't you being serious???"
The animal we were seeing was a Pizote, this cutie:
We saw them strolling around the rooms a couple more times.
