May Book(s) - 2019 Reading Challenge
This was another great month for me. I also read 7 books, although most of them I had already read a few years ago and decided to reread.
The first book I read was The Vegetarian, and it was incredibly disturbing (as it was supposed to be). If you know anything about me, you'll know that I've been vegan for a while now, so this book was quite personal for me. It isn't really about vegetarianism, but rather about the abuse the main character has to endure from people who don't respect her choices, and how that abuse affects her mental health. It's a great book, but a very emotional and painful read.
After such a serious book I definitely wanted something that would make me feel lighter. So I decided to read a trilogy that I used to LOVE when I was a teen, but never got to the last book since it was never translated to portuguese. It's the Ruby Red series!
It's such a cute and fun story and it made me realize that I find time traveling really interesting. Ever since I was a teen I was so curious to know how the series would end, and after all this time I finally purchased the Emerald Green e-book and found out. Maybe it was the half decade of suspense, but the end was so exciting and satisfying for me. All the pieces coming together made me incredibly happy.
Afterwards I was in a teen romance mood, so I decided to read Anna and the French Kiss.
It was alright. I didn't fall in love with the characters, but it was a fun, easy read.
Finally, I decided to reread The Hunger Games. I used to love it so much as a teen, and it was incredible reading it again now that I'm older and have a completely different perspective on the capitalist system that we live in and how people are affected by it. I managed to read the first two books by the end of May (so the first book of June will be an easy guess!)
I'm having a lot of fun with this challenge so far!
