Another Vegan Birthday!
Last week was my birthday, and as I said, birthdays are important to me. This was a really special day that I'm glad I documented.
My day started early, as I've been trying to wake up before 8AM everyday. I had bread with the new Vego hazelnut spread, which I couldn't love more: It's vegan, fairtrade, palm oil free and comes in a glass jar! I bought it in a recent vegan event - Veganário Fest - from a store called Green Beans.
Then I spent a big part of the morning cooking lunch: I followed a recipe from "Cozinha Vegetariana para Festejar" (which I actually already done and filmed once, last Christmas!). It's one of my favorite recipes I've tried, but it takes a lot of time so I save it for special occasions!
I also made a really simple treat that I used to love before going vegan: Gougère, a puff pastry with cheese filling. I used Violife Mozzarella flavored vegan cheese.
For dessert, I ordered a vegan Mango, Coconut and Lime cake from a place called VeganEats Caffé.I also made chocolate salami!
In the afternoon, I decided to do something that I'd never done before. I've always wanted to do vegan activism, and what better day to start than my birthday? I participated in my first ever Cube of Truth, and it was an incredible experience. I got to talk with so many amazing people, and it felt so good to be with people who share my beliefs. In the end, everyone sang Happy Birthday to me, and even though I was really embarrassed to be in front of so many people, it made me really happy.
For dinner, I invited my family to one of my favorite restaurants in Lisbon: Ao 26.
When I arrived, I was so hungry I forgot to take pictures of my favorite thing: Their Veggie Tempura. I ate so much tempura that when my "Bloody Beet Burger" arrived, I could only eat about half of it. It comes with sweet potato fries, and I should have asked for regular fries instead: even though I love sweet potato, they got me incredibly full and I wish I hadn't wasted so much food.
My boyfriend asked for a Vegan Francesinha, and it was really good! It's a shame it didn't come with regular fries either, since the chips weren't as suited to dip in the sauce as fries are.
I was completely stuffed so I did something I never do on restaurants: I skipped dessert. That's right: The waiter asked if I wanted dessert and I said "No, thank you." I never thought this day would come. My family asked for a chocolate mousse but weren't a fan of it.
Then we went home and I went straight to bed.
One year ago, I uploaded my first ever youtube video: My 21st birthday. I'm so proud of myself and happy that one year later I'm uploading yet another vegan birthday. You can watch it here:
I hope your next birthday makes you as happy as mine made me!
